DEVCOM’s mission is to accelerate research, development, engineering and analysis to deliver warfighter capabilities. With this in mind, the DEVCOM Team develops technologies that make it possible for warfighters to have the combat capabilities necessary to win on the battlefield of the future.
Science and technology are the cornerstone of DEVCOM’s Soldier-Centered Design and Experimentation. Through Soldier Touch Points, the DEVCOM Team continuously gathers feedback and information directly from Soldiers in the field. Working side-by-side with Soldiers enables DEVCOM to gather data that helps drive key decisions about developmental technology.
DEVCOM conducts many different types of experiments to inform decisions for future technology. History has shown that experimentation can lead to breakthroughs and extraordinary innovations that are the result of combining different solutions that had never been used. Fostering this type of environment is key to pushing innovation.
DEVCOM’s seven technology centers and research laboratory work together as one team. They partner with Soldiers early in the development process to provide input to industry, testers, researchers and acquisition experts on the capabilities the Army requires to transform and modernize. The team develops prototypes and sends these to units, who incorporate them into their training and exercises.
DEVCOM conducts Soldier-centered lab and field experiments to accelerate promising ideas and cut the time it takes to deliver tangible Soldier capabilities. Getting S&T into experimentation overall is an essential step to address the critical needs for the future Army.
DEVCOM is committed to developing capabilities to transform and modernize the Army, and Soldier-Centered Design is a critical part of the process.
