Brig. Gen. Robert G. Born assumed command of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command, known as DEVCOM, on June 27, 2025.
DEVCOM empowers Army Futures Command with the science, technology, engineering and analytical expertise that underpins Army Transformation from concept development to materiel sustainment. As DEVCOM’s commanding general, Born leads a world-class team of science and technology experts fully focused on making American Warfighters more lethal and equipped with the cutting-edge combat capabilities they need to win on the battlefield of the future.
A native of Burke, Virginia, Born graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1996 and commissioned into the infantry.
During his nearly 30 years of service, he has held command and staff assignments with the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas; 4th Security Force Assistance Brigade at Fort Carson, Colorado; 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; the Joint Staff in Washington, D.C.; and the 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas.
Born’s operational assignments include Operation Atlantic Resolve, Romania; two tours as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan; and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq.
Born holds master’s degrees in national security studies and national security strategy, and a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering. He is a graduate of the National War College, Air Command and Staff College, and the Army’s Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses.
His awards include the Legion of Merit (with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Bronze Star (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), and Joint Service Commendation Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster).
He is authorized to wear the Combat, Master Combat and Expert Infantryman Badges, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Ranger Tab, and Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge.
Born is married with three children.
