Command Sgt. Maj. Thinh T. Huynh assumed responsibility as senior noncommissioned officer of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command, and senior enlisted advisor to the DEVCOM commanding general in May 2025. In this role, Huynh serves as a critical conduit between the DEVCOM science and technology community and the operational Army, linking technical experts to units and Soldiers.
Huynh is a proud naturalized U.S. citizen, having escaped South Vietnam’s oppressive communist regime as a child in 1986. He arrived in the United States in 1989, enlisted in the U.S. Army eight years later as an Airborne Infantryman, and graduated from Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1997.
Huynh has held a variety of leadership positions throughout his career, including Team Leader, Ranger Instructor, Joint Battalion Command Sergeant Major, Airborne Infantry Battalion Command Sergeant Major, and Infantry Brigade Combat Team Command Sergeant Major. In his most recent assignment, he served as commandant for the 11th and newest combatant command, the U.S. Space Command, at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
His operational deployments include Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and an emergency deployment with U.S. Central Command’s (CENTCOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR).
Huynh’s military education includes all levels of the noncommissioned officer education system, as well as numerous elite Army schools including Army Basic Space Cadre Course, Airborne School, Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, and Pathfinder School. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in emergency management.
Huynh’s military service awards and decorations include: Legion of Merit; Bronze Star Medal (with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster); Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters); Army Commendation Medal with V device; Army Commendation Medal (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters); Army Achievement Medal (with 1 Silver Leaf Cluster and 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters);
Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He is the recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice, Saint Barbara medal, and the Order of Saint Dominic.
Huynh is married and has two children.
