The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Chemical Biological Center, located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, is the nation’s leading research and development center for non-medical chemical and biological defense.
The DEVCOM Chemical Biological Center is one of eight science and technology domains within DEVCOM. Its mission is to provide innovative capabilities for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) defense. These capabilities enable Joint Warfighters to maintain dominance on the battlefield and support interagency defense of the homeland.
DEVCOM CBC develops technologies that enhance Soldier readiness and lethality by safeguarding our Warfighters on the battlefield through CBRNE detection, protection and decontamination. It supports these technologies throughout their entire lifecycle, from basic research to technology development, engineering design, equipment evaluation, product support, sustainment, field operations and disposal.
Some technologies DEVCOM CBC has developed include: protective masks; respiratory systems; chemical and biological agent detectors; warning devices; and decontamination systems.
The organization collaborates with nearly every federal agency and is a national chemical and biological defense resource.
